Lesson 5 of 9 · How to use ByOrder

How to pre-alert your package step by step

By Christian Jessel, CEO of ByOrder · Updated November 2, 2026 · 1 min read

To pre-alert, log in, go to Prealertar (Pre-alert) and enter the exact description of the item, the tracking number, the value in dollars, the address you used and the real invoice for your purchase. If applicable, confirm the insurance and create the pre-alert. You will then see it in Mis paquetes (My packages).

    What information do you need?

    • The exact description of the item.
    • The tracking number the store gave you.
    • The value of the item in dollars.
    • The real invoice for your purchase.

    Step by step

    1. Log in to your locker and go to Prealertar (Pre-alert).
    2. Enter the exact description of the item.
    3. Enter the tracking number.
    4. Enter the value in dollars.
    5. Select which of your addresses you shipped the purchase to.
    6. Upload the invoice.
    7. Confirm the insurance when applicable and choose Crear (Create).
    8. Check the pre-alert in Mis paquetes (My packages).

    Which invoice works?

The one for your purchase, real and complete. Do not upload screenshots or other documents. This document is submitted to the DIAN: a false or incomplete invoice can lead to penalties or reassessments.

    What does the insurance cover?

Total loss, total theft and total damage that leaves the product unusable. It does not cover missing items, partial theft or partial damage. A package that came in without a valid pre-alert does not gain coverage afterward.

    Frequently asked questions

Which number goes in the pre-alert?

The package tracking number, not the store's order number or a carrier link.

What if my purchase arrived in several boxes?

If the store generated several tracking numbers, create one pre-alert for each, even if they belong to the same order.

    When is insurance mandatory?

For values over USD 300. For lower values it may be optional. It must be recorded in the pre-alert before the package reaches Miami.
